ExFloor
about the class:
The Exfloor class is an immersive experience designed to deepen the connection between the dancer's body and the floor, fostering a holistic exploration of movement. Participants engage in a journey of discovery, seeking to integrate their entire body with the ground beneath them. Through a series of dynamic exercises, dancers explore various levels and dimensions, tapping into the inherent energy of their movements.
The fundamental area of Exfloor plays with the idea of a relationship of the body with the Moving Floor, a 3 dimensional space full of spirals and constant momentum using tools from a diverse range of techniques such as Flying Low, Physical Momentum, Centrifugal Empowerment, and the integration of Breath and Sound with Movement, participants are guided to explore the rich possibilities of their bodies in motion.
Each session is an opportunity for dancers to delve into the fundamental relationship between body and floor, cultivating awareness, strength, and fluidity. By embracing the principles of connectivity and energy exchange, participants expand their movement vocabulary and unlock new pathways of expression.
In an Exfloor class, dancers embark on a transformative journey, bridging the gap between self and space, and discovering the boundless potential of their physicality.
Flying Low &
Passing Through
Flying low: (originator David Zambrano)
The flying low classes focus mainly on the dancer’s relationship with the floor. The class utilises simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed and the release of energy throughout the body in order to activate the relationship between the centre and the joints, moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining a centred state. There is a focus on the skeletal structure that will help improve the dancers physical perception and alertness. The class includes partnering work and movement phrases, which explore the primary laws of physics: cohesion and expansion.
Passing Through
Visible and invisible spirals are constantly passing through the students. Thus the “passing through” is created into a spontaneous composition. When the group becomes one mind, it can never get lost, there is never one person leading, everyone is following. The whole group is constantly travelling, weaving their bodies inside and out of their classmates and still always aware of the environment around them.
